Those Who Have Faith
“But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” (Hebrews 10:39 NIV)
In the tenth chapter of Hebrews, the writer talks about the confidence we have in Christ and encourages the readers to persevere in their faith. The WMU emphasis verse above is the last verse of Hebrews 10, in which the writer speaks of “those who have faith.” As you continue reading, Hebrews 11 is the chapter known as the “Faith Chapter” or the “Hall of Faith.” We read of people who lived by faith, such as Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and Moses. We are reminded of the confidence and assurance they had in God and His promises because of their faith in Him.
If someone were to write a “Hall of Faith” today, I wonder whose names would be added? Who would be included as those who lived in authentic faith in God? We might read about Lottie Moon, who waited for the women in her time to give so more missionaries could be sent to China. Or missionary Adoniram Judson, who served in Burma for years before he saw one soul come to Christ. Missionaries we have learned about in Mission Friends this year would surely be included as those who have faith, such as Kay Bennett or the Hauns. We also might read of the Mission Friends leader today who faithfully teaches those sticky-fingered preschoolers each week so they would know of Jesus’ love for all people.
Ask God to help you to live in authentic faith in Christ. He will give you the assurance of His presence and the strength to persevere as you live out your faith in Him.
Pray:
Dear God, Thank you for reminding me of those who lived in genuine faith in You. Help me that I would not shrink back, but live in authentic faith in Christ. Amen.
