Spotlight Update: Victor and Madeline Hawthorne in Southeast Asia
June 14, 2024/
Madeline Hawthorne, an International Mission Board missionary to Deaf Peoples in Southeast Asia, tells a beautiful story of a Deaf woman whose changed life has opened many doors for gospel ministry. Saeng was a student who bullied others. She was cruel. Her boyfriend, Chun, was not a believer but had a gentler heart than Saeng. Chun had a miraculous dream that led him to ask questions about what Christians believe. Soon he was attending a Bible study and began dragging Saeng along with him.
Saeng was rude during the studies, spending the whole time on her cell phone and interrupting to show funny videos. A few weeks later, Saeng had a dream in which her soul left her body and went up to a place with a huge throne. On the throne was a massive being so bright she couldn’t see it, and she was surrounded by a mass of people of various heights, colors, and languages. She was led by an angelic being in front of the throne and forced to kneel. Her dream continued with sights of happy people, but she could not get to them. She turned toward a pit and saw others screaming in torment.
God spoke to Saeng through Madeline and her husband, Victor, following Saeng’s dream, and she accepted Christ. Saeng has a great network of Deaf friends throughout the country. She now shares the good news with others and networks in the community to develop more opportunities.
