Spotlight Update: Joey Buck and Theme Park Chaplaincy

Joey Buck, chaplain at a theme park in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, shared an update about his ministry to the employees and guests where he works.
The park recently held an inaugural race weekend, which brought thousands of runners from across the world to race through the park and its scenic roads. “On the evening before the races, I wanted to provide a place for runners, family, and friends to come together in celebration of their accomplishments and to speak a blessing for safety and success.”
At this evening event, Joey shared a brief encouragement of Scripture and prayer. Then participants stood in line wearing their race shoes, and Joey’s team prayed a “blessing of the sneakers.”
“In reality, it’s not the sneakers that matter most,” Joey said. “It’s the person wearing them … whom our prayers … bless!”
Joey asks for prayer for his team to always be ready and wise. They often get invited into circumstances where they have limited knowledge of or relationship with the person in need. No matter the situation, Joey desires to provide Christlike care and spiritual guidance to employees and guests, sharing the love of Jesus in everything.
