Making the Jump from Preschool to Children’s Missions

Help kindergartners finish Mission Friends well and be ready to move up to children’s missions groups.

Mission Friends is such a wonderful time to begin introducing preschoolers to missions. Preschoolers want to know everything about their world, and it is so much fun to open their eyes to God’s amazing love, and that He wants everyone to be part of His family.

But I am so glad that it doesn’t have to end there! Children’s missions — Girls in Action (GA), Royal Ambassadors (RA), and Children in Action (CA) is the next step after Mission Friends. There is much more for children to learn to build on the amazing foundation you have helped lay for them in Mission Friends.

So, don’t stop! Help kindergartners in Missions Friends finish well and be ready to move up to children’s missions in the fall with these ideas:

  •  Display posters of the motto, pledge, and Bible verses from the GA Poster Pack, the RA Poster Pack, or the CA Poster Pack. Go over them with kindergartners. Seeing the words each week will help kindergartners to learn and join in saying these more quickly.
  • Coordinate with children’s missions leaders to create “buddy” pairs in which an older child is designated to help a kindergartner moving up into GA, RA, or CA. Plan a day when pairs can get acquainted. Include games where pairs get to work together.
  • In coordination with children’s missions leaders, plan a GA, RA, or CA preview day for kindergartners and their families. Work with children’s missions leaders to show kindergartners some of the fun things they will get to do as they grow in missions awareness and involvement.
  • Plan a joint outreach project with children’s missions groups or let kindergartners help children’s missions groups with a project to encourage your church to support one of the missions offerings.

Moving up to the children’s area at church is a big deal! Your efforts to ease the transition will make missions discipleship seamless and fun for everyone involved!
