Unshakable Pursuit: Firm in Your Faith

Stand Firm and Don't Be Shaken

Have you ever had a time when one bad thing happened after another and another? When it seemed like there were difficulties all around you? You may have been in this situation in the past, or you may be there now. You may likely face this in the future. How do you stand firm in your trust in God during those times?

Standing Firm

The Bible tells us of a king of Judah who was in the midst of a crisis. Isaiah 7:1-9 describes the situation in which enemies were on all sides. The enemies had even enticed the nations that were allied with Judah to go against them. King Ahaz was terrified. The account in Isaiah tells us that “the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.” (Isaiah 7:3) Then the Lord sent the prophet Isaiah to speak to King Ahaz. He spoke the encouraging words to keep calm and not to be afraid. The Lord also said, “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” (Isaiah 7:9) At this point of crisis, God made it clear that the very existence of Judah depended on their trust in the Sovereign Lord.

Trusting in God

This story also encourages us to stand firm by placing our trust in the Lord. He is the creator of the universe and reigns over all. He is trustworthy, and we can be confident that He is dependable. In times when you have difficulties all around, go back and read this story in the book of Isaiah. Let the words encourage you to trust in God. Allow this story to reinforce the words from the verse for Unshakable Pursuit in 1 Cor. 15:58: Stand firm and don’t be shaken.

Pray: Almighty God, Thank You that You are Lord over all, and completely worthy of my trust. When I am tempted to let the difficulties around me to shake my trust in You, help me to stand firm in my faith. Amen.
