By All Means

3 Hearts

While walking in my neighborhood, I passed by a rock on the curb. I stopped and went back a couple steps to pick it up. It definitely looked like a heart shape. The next day at our office building, there was a table of squishy hearts to take one as a free giveaway. I also found a woven paper heart in the closet with our art supplies. These are a few different objects that are heart-shaped, but they look quite different from one another. The squishy heart is smooth and soft, and it is easy to hold in your hand and squeeze. The paper heart is cleverly made by weaving two colors of paper together. The rock is rough and dusty with lines and jagged edges.

As a Mission Friends teacher, you will have preschoolers who come to you with many different needs for love. Some preschoolers are happy and easy to love. For others, you have to work at weaving love into their lives over time. Some preschoolers come to you with rough and jagged edges, and you find it difficult to love them. God calls you to show His love to each one by all possible means.

As you think of demonstrating love to each preschooler, keep in mind the following Scripture passages:

  • Ÿ “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19 NIV1).

  • Ÿ “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:9–10).

Throughout this month as you teach Mission Friends, look for ways to show God’s love to your preschoolers. Remember that God first loved you enough to send His Son for you. Because of this, you can love each preschooler in your care. God can use you as His means of showing love to preschoolers as you meet their needs for love in different ways.

Pray: Loving Father, Thank You for first loving me and showing Your love by sending Your Son. Guide me as I teach preschoolers to see how each one needs love. Help me to show Your love to the preschooler who is a delight to be with, the one who needs love woven into our activities, and the one who may seem rough around the edges. Let them see Your love in me. Amen.
