Policies

Tax Exemption and Collection

In accordance with applicable state and local laws, WMU is required to charge sales tax in certain localities. As a general rule, it is the laws of the state of delivery that determine whether sales tax will be due on your transaction.

WMU does not collect sales or use tax in all states. Even if we do not collect sales tax from you, you may owe sales or use tax on your purchase unless it is specifically exempt from taxation. Your purchase is not exempt merely because it is made over the internet or by other remote means. Many states require purchasers to file a sales/use tax return at the end of the year, reporting all of the taxable purchases that were not taxed, and to pay the tax on those purchases. Details of how to report these taxes may be found at the websites of your respective taxing jurisdictions.

For our tax-exempt customers, WMU does not collect sales tax if we have your exemption certificate on file. The tax exemption certificate will remain on file, unless the church/organization is incorporated in a state where tax exemption certificates expire. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to indicate that the purchaser's church/organization is tax exempt and to ensure that a current tax exemption certificate remains on file with national WMU.

WMU uses Avalara CertExpress tax software for tax exemption purposes. If your account is exempt from paying sales tax in your state, you must upload your tax exemption documentation by completing this form. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected] or (205) 995-4850.

Recurring Order Subscriptions

What are recurring curriculum orders?

Items sold as recurring subscription orders are automatically billed and shipped at regular intervals (monthly or quarterly).

Customers are welcome to update the quantities of their recurring orders; however, any changes must be submitted before the cutoff date for each order cycle. Additions to quantities made after the cutoff date will be processed as single products at single product shipping rates.

Order cycle dates will be published here as soon as they become available.

Our recurring subscription orders will begin with the Fall 2025 issues. Orders for print subscriptions will be shipped by August 2025. Orders for digital subscriptions will be available in customers’ digital library by August 2025.

How often are recurring product orders billed?

Recurring subscription product orders are billed according to their publication frequency. Quarterly subscriptions will be billed quarterly. Monthly subscriptions will be billed monthly. This allows you to spread your payments out over a year instead of paying in one lump sum.

When do new recurring orders begin? When will I get the first issue?

Recurring subscription orders placed on the new website begin with the Fall/September 2025 issue. Estimated ship date for print materials is August 2025. Estimated availability date for digital materials is August 2025.

Why did you change to quarterly or monthly billing for subscriptions?

For years, our churches have had concerns about paying for the entire year in advance. Those who had large children’s organizations faced a huge lump sum charge for their curriculum, so we have broken down payment into quarters or months.

Will my church receive all our curriculum items for a given quarter at one time instead of in separate shipments at varying times?

Yes! For years, our churches have complained that curriculum was sent in separate print runs and arrived at different times. So we searched diligently for a printer that could “kit” all material together and send in 1 box (or 1 shipment of multiple boxes) for a reasonable price.

Will my church be able to place one recurring curriculum order for multiple items that ships to multiple addresses?

No. The option to place 1 order with multiple ship-to addresses is no longer available. A single, bulk order for multiple items will have only one “ship to” address. To ensure all your items are packaged and shipped together for the lowest cost possible each quarter, we must ship everything to one mailing address.

No one is at my church during the day. Can we use an alternative shipping address?

Yes, you may use an alternative physical mailing address. Keep in mind that to use bulk recurring order features, all items must ship to the same address. Shipping to one address saves on packaging and shipping costs. NOTE: Boxed orders can only be shipped to a physical address, not a USPS PO Box.

Why is shipping now being charged on recurring order subscriptions?

For years, our churches have told us they have problems with curriculum being sent in separate print runs and that arrived at different times. So we searched diligently for a printer that could “kit” all material together and send in 1 box (or 1 shipment of multiple boxes) for a reasonable price.

Finding a solution to this and other issues necessitated many changes to our shipping processes.

We have also changed to using “live” shipping rates instead of a set shipping table. For this reason, you may see fluctuations in shipping costs for items you purchase again and again over time.

While we work to keep shipping affordable, we could also no longer sustain covering shipping costs as costs on all aspects of publishing continue to rise.

It is certainly not our intent to price anyone out of subscribing to our publications. We treasure our prayer warriors who have been so faithful through the years and those just starting their missions journeys.

Are the shipping charges displayed in checkout for recurring subscription orders correct?

Shipping charges displayed at checkout for recurring subscription orders are currently estimated based on the charge for a single back-issue shipped from our warehouse here in Birmingham as First Class USPS.

With us just going live on our new website in the past couple of weeks, we continue to work with our system provider on a way to best explain our new billing process as well as how it shows up in checkout.

Your credit card will not be charged for each recurring order issue until we obtain the actual shipping charges back from the printer.
