Make Time to Seek God in Prayer

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” (Phil. 1:9-11, NIV)

Life is busy. It’s easy to get tangled in the lists of things that need attention. No matter what hats you wear and how many different hats you swap on and off your head, scarcity of time most likely keeps you hopping from task to task.

I’m right there with you. My lists have lists. Sometimes, to make myself feel better, I’m tempted to write something I’ve completed on my list just so I can cross it off. The daily calendar is full of chores, duties, and obligations.

But where does prayer fit into all of this busyness? How do we make every minute count?

Hopefully, prayer is at the top of our list. Sometimes though, there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to sit quietly, calm our minds, and focus our thoughts and prayers on our heavenly Father. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. And yet, those minutes and hours slip quickly through our fingertips.

Despite a seeming lack of time, our responsibility to relentlessly seek God in prayer is even more important when we consider our calling of being a leader of preschoolers through Mission Friends. We hold our calling close and treasure the young members of our classes. We must slow the clock and secure time to pray. We can also adopt the habit of continually communing with God as we go about our daily lives.

Reread the verses at the top of this post. Prayer is definitely “what is best” for our time.

Join me and commit to making prayer to God a number one priority in our lives, seeking Him in prayer in all things, that He will be glorified in our lives. Just five minutes will make a difference. Between you and me, I think we can stretch that time even longer, and pray that our love may grow, our insights deepen, and we will be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.

Pray:

Father God, We know You care for us. Please guide and help us as we seek You in prayer. Keep our thoughts attuned to You. Help us discern what is best for the minutes, hours, and days of our lives as we serve You. Help us as we love and teach preschoolers about You and the missionaries You have sent out into the world. Give us Your love, patience, and wisdom to lead well. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
