2010 WMU Missions Celebration and Annual Meeting: Unhindered Living
by Courtney Simpson
(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) – May 7, 2010 – WMU will launch their 2010–2012 emphasis, Unhindered!, during the national WMU Missions Celebration and Annual Meeting, June 13–14, in Orlando, Fla. Through missionaries and other guest speakers, music, interactive breakout sessions, and more, participants will be challenged and equipped to live a missional lifestyle.
“It is my prayer that each of us will truly be unhindered in our Christian service and ministry—that no constraints or challenges would deter us from greater missions awareness and involvement,” said Wanda S. Lee, executive director of national WMU. “This event is designed to help each one of us gain a greater understanding of God’s mission in the world and to recognize and address the hindrances that can keep us from the rewards of living a missional life.”
Guest speakers include IMB field representatives Monica Allen, Randy and Debby Owens, and Beth P.; Sharon Fields-McCormick, a Mission Service Corps (MSC) missionary serving in Atlanta, Ga.; Chaplain Douglas Carver, Chief of Chaplains for the United States Army; Frank Page, former president of the Southern Baptist Convention and current vice president for evangelism at the North American Mission Board; and Jennifer Kennedy Dean, author of this year’s WMU emphasis book, Life Unhindered: Five Keys to Walking in Freedom.
Additional features include dialogue with missionaries, an interactive resource area and on-site bookstore, the launch of human exploitation as the focus of WMU’s Project HELP for 2010–2012, opportunities to connect and network with missional leaders from around the country, and a special reception for Kaye Miller as she concludes her fifth and final term of service as national WMU president.
“As the first MK [missionary kid] to serve as national president, Kaye’s profound love for missions and commitment to instilling a missional heart in today’s children and youth is apparent in all that she does,” observed Lee. “An additional special focus of hers during these years has been ministering to other MKs.
“Throughout her tenure,” Lee continued, “Kaye has tirelessly promoted and demonstrated the value of missions education and involvement through WMU. I hope everyone will make a point to greet her during this reception and thank her for leadership these past five years.”
The WMU Missions Celebration will take place at the Orange County Convention Center, West Concourse, Level 3, in the Chapin Theater. The event is free and no preregistration is required; on-site registration opens at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13.
General sessions are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, and 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Special music will begin 15 to 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each general session.
Miller will deliver her final presidential address during the Monday morning general session. Various conferences, including pertinent information for leaders of all WMU age-level missions organizations, will be offered on Monday afternoon.
