Badges

WMU® offers a variety of missions participation badges and patches. They are a great way to recognize, encourage, and motivate children. New badges and patches are created every year. Click below for information on using them.

Selecting Badges and Patches
There are no set guidelines for how and when a child can receive a badge/patch. Create your own badge/patch program to meet the needs of your group. Girls in Action® or Children in ActionSM receive badges. Royal Ambassadors® receive patches.

The badges/patches should correspond with programs, events, and projects in which children will participate. Most groups select four to seven badges/patches or stars a year.

Requirements
You determine the requirements for a child to earn each badge, patch, or star. Your requirements should be reachable for all children. Ideas for each badge/patch are included on www.wmustore.com.

FOR RA: View this patches awards chart for requirement guidelines regarding RA patches

TIPS: Make requirements easier for younger children than for older children. Provide ways for children who start in the middle of the year to make up projects. Design requirements that are fun and easy to accomplish.

Tell children about the badges, patches, or stars they can earn this year. Explain the requirements for each badge/patch to both children and parents.

Use this free badge chart to keep track of the badges that a child earns. Write on the chart the date when a child earns and receives each.

Awarding

Badges and patches are typically given at the end of the year at a recognition service. You can also award them throughout the year to keep children motivated and encouraged.

The first year that a child completes a project to earn a badge or patch, give him or her the badge/patch. You can also give the child the appropriate grade-level star:

In the years that follow, give the child a star to recognize additional work related to a badge.

Displaying
Choose a way to display badges/patches: on a vest, sash, backpack, or other item. For a limited time, you can purchase a sash from WorldCrafts.

Leaders are encouraged to display badges and stars on the Girls in Action or Children in Action vest.

Leaders can order vests from LifeWay Specialty Imprints online or by calling 800-443-8032.

Or leaders may choose to purchase a vest pattern from www.wmustore.com or 1-800-968-7301 for $3.99. Consider asking the Women on Mission® or Adults on MissionSM group at your church to sew vests for your children. Encourage these adults to sponsor your children as they earn badges throughout the year.

Patches are for more than just bicycle tires, blue jean knees, driveways, marriages, and computer software.

For many generations, patches have also been an important part of Royal Ambassadors®!
