When new churches open their doors for the first time, they are often given some financial support from a “mother” church. The mother church helps provide the necessary resources for a young church to serve the surrounding community. But new churches need more than financial support.

Leader: “Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us! So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won’t let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us.”*
All: Lord, help us get rid of those things that keep us from running the race You laid out for us.
Children: Give us energy to run.
Students: Give us courage to stand up for what is right.
Recently, I joined the popular social networking site, Facebook®. At first, I regretted my decision to join. Juggling the responsibilities of having two children and being self-employed, I didn't think I had the time to be bombarded with the minor details of my Facebook friends’ lives.
When Peter wrote to believers who had been scattered across the land because of their identity as Christians, he wanted to encourage them to continue to grow spiritually and to allow that growth and maturity to evidence itself when they lead others. People who observed the lives of the early believers recognized that they were different but, in some cases, could not understand why.
When someone puts something into focus it brings clarity. Focus discards the outer edges by making them fuzzy. It doesn’t mean the edges are unimportant. It just means at the moment they are not important.
The purpose of Focus on WMU is to feature the missions activities of church members who are involved in what WMU provides. WMU is simply the channel through which God can and does work.
