One Hour a Week

We teach preschoolers in Mission Friends for 1 hour a week, while parents and other caregivers have them for the other 167 hours each week. Parents are so important to their preschooler’s development. As preschool leaders at church, we seek to partner with parents in leading their child to know of God’s love for all people. As we teach preschoolers at church, we need to involve parents and provide ways for them to teach their preschoolers at home.

Resource Kit File

What do you do with items from the Mission Friends Resource Kit and Pictures when the month is over? Keep them! Some items may not be in such great condition after being used by preschoolers throughout the month. Other items are still in good condition, and can be used at another time. These are good to re-use at times when you need an extra activity.

Celebrate Week of the Young Child

Week of the Young Child is celebrated across the country on April 22–28 this year. The theme is Early Years Are Learning Years, and this is true for missions learning, too. This is a week to raise awareness about the needs of young children and also to acknowledge those who care for young children. It is not too late to make plans to celebrate during Week of the Young Child. Take one or more of the ideas below and celebrate the young children in your church.

Preschoolers Are Important

I really was not trying to pry. I was standing right there when someone said, “Would it be possible for our church to install speakers in the nursery rooms so the workers can hear the worship services?” She was referring to the people who rotate in the preschool classes on Sunday mornings during worship care, or Extended Teaching Care (ETC). I spoke up and asked if I could respond. I gave a brief response, and here I will share an expanded version of my thoughts.

Celebrating Easter with Preschoolers

Easter can be a dilemma for preschool teachers and parents. When do we begin introducing to preschoolers the details about Jesus’ death and resurrection? How much do they understand? How do we balance the amount of emphasis we put on eggs, bunnies, and candy with the emphasis on the spiritual focus of the holiday?
