Paddling without an oar?

Ever tried to paddle a canoe without an oar? Ever tried to bake a cake by just looking at its picture in the cookbook? Without an oar or a recipe these two tasks can be pretty difficult. Sometimes when I haven’t planned out my work, I feel like that canoe without a paddle or that mess of a cake.
 

Do you ever feel like running away?

Do you ever feel like running away? Have you wanted to throw everything to the wind and let someone else make the decisions? Have you wanted to unplug the phone so that not one more question comes your way?

I have!

As leaders, we sometimes feel as though there is never a moment for ourselves. The phone is ringing; we’re getting another email; we’re thinking about everything we still need to do. When I get into this state, I say to myself, STOP IT!

Watch Out for Snakes

When I was a GA®, my sister and I headed off for a week of summer missions activities at our associational camp. There were lots of things to do; however, the one thing we couldn’t do was swim in the lake, because it wasn’t “swimmer-ready.” The weeds that stood between the campers and the lake was probably a haven for snakes. Fortunately, we didn’t know one way or the other. But for sure, we weren’t going to wander through there without a weapon.
