Mission Trip in Kentucky

Have you ever been to Kentucky?  I was actually born there and lived there until I was in preschool. I returned to Kentucky after college and lived there another several years.  I think Kentucky is one of our many, many beautiful states, filled with some incredibly hard workers!  It is a joy to be there. 

Receiving a Baptist Nursing Fellowship Scholarship

As I read the theme for this year’s BNF Annual Meeting: “We Hold These Treasures—Unhindered,” it reminded me of a dynamic historical speech written and orated by Nannie Helen Burroughs in 1900 at the National Baptist Convention held in Richmond, Virginia. The name of the now famous speech was entitled “How the Sisters are Hindered from Helping.” In her speech Ms. Burroughs directed attention to the touchy subject of restriction placed on women in the church.

It’s not an easy topic to talk about or discuss in public, but it is one that is quietly infiltrating the pews of the church from every direction. Men, women, senior adults, and teenagers alike are in the trenches daily fighting the addictive nature of pornography. It has been called the bubonic plague of the twenty-first century, silently killing men, women, families, and marriages!
