It’s NEVER Too Late!

ShareThis

Yes, it’s almost the end of January and yes, Children’s Ministry Day is February 18, and no, it’s not too late to get your children involved in Operation Education. The emphasis for this year’s Children’s Ministry Day is Operation Education, and the sky is the limit for various projects your children can do.

What a great opportunity for your child to reach out to the community and help meet needs and to share the love of God. And remember even if you choose not to participate on February 18, your children can choose another time for Operation Education. So what are you waiting on?

Children in your church can do so many things as a Children’s Ministry Day project. They can have a book collection and give gently-used or new books to the local school library, or perhaps the books can be given to several classrooms in the school. Children can collect school supplies to give to schools that might be in need of additional resources. Children can help with school clean-up projects.

No, it’s NEVER too late. Even if you have done nothing thus far, but you know your children would love to be involved, here are some easy tips to make Operation Education a fun, learning experience that helps children understand what it means to serve others.

  • Meet with the children’s minister or other children’s leaders to set a date if not participating on February 18. Begin making plans and brainstorming ideas of what your children could do. Enlist parent helpers.
  • Make contact with the local library, school, or daycare center (or whatever organization) you want to help. Find out their needs and determine if your children can help.
  • Discuss your plans with leaders at the school. Finalize plans the week before your children will arrive.
  • Promote the event by using the materials in the Children’s Ministry Day Pack that includes posters, more project suggestions, learning activities, a skit, clip art, and planning helps. Order a copy at www.wmustore.com or call 1-800-968-7301.
  • Order each child an Operation Education T-Shirt at from Lifeway Specialty Imprints or call 1-800-443-8032.

Several weekends ago, I opened my Facebook newsfeed to find that a WMU friend was taking her Girls in Action members to visit the Baptist Friendship House in New Orleans, LA. I immediately sent her a private message and asked her to take plenty of pictures of her GAs while they were there.
