Grant Recipient Testimony This spring break I traveled to North Africa with a team of four other people from my church. One of the goals of our trip was to observe the quality of health care in the country we visited and to develop relationships with Muslim people. On a previous trip, I had met an anesthesiologist who invited me to visit her hospital on a return trip. During our tour, she proudly showed us the various areas of the hospital. For most of the areas, she simply opened a door and briefly showed us the space. However, when she opened the final door, she walked in and motioned for us to follow her. It was the maternity area and a woman was in labor and we were being invited to assist. Since I am interested in labor and delivery for my nursing career, I was particularly excited about this chance to observe maternity care up close and personal. It was definitely a different experience from my experiences here. I was able to assist with the delivery. I was not sure how the woman would feel about having “foreigners” present during her labor, but the missionary later told us that the woman would consider it a blessing to have an American assist in her baby’s delivery. I look forward to other trips to this country where we can build on the relationships we made on this trip and begin to work with their doctors and nurses to improve the standard of care they provide their patients and to develop relationships that will lead to seeing many come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. I am so thankful to the Baptist Nursing Fellowship for the funds they provided that made this trip possible.
