Families on Mission

Newton Serves CCC

Sharing God's love together is sure to ignite a lifelong passion for missions in your family! Use these resources at home to reinforce what preschoolers are learning at church. Talking about and praying for missionaries will spark creative ideas for helping others in your own community.

WMU has developed resources that can help your family reach out to others.

Help a Senior Adult

The Mahons and their church friends work together with their community during Newton Serves Day. They help clean up the city, plant flowers, and do other things that make Newton a nice place to live. They tell people about their church and that Jesus loves them.

Print this page. Draw a circle around the things the Mahons and their friends could use while helping with Newton Serves. Talk about how you and your family and church can help in your community. You can plan a Family Serve Day.

One suggestion for a Family Serve Day is to help a senior adult.

  • Go to a local garden store and encourage your preschooler to pick out gardening gloves and other child-sized garden equipment. Then help a senior adult in your neighborhood with his or her lawn or flower beds. Invite your senior friend to join your family for Easter services.

  • Work with your preschooler to put potting soil into a small flower pot, then add an inexpensive blooming flower from your garden store. Take the flower to a senior adult neighbor.

  • Bake cookies together and visit a senior adult neighbor together to deliver the treat.

  • Make an Easter card for a senior adult neighbor. Fold a piece of construction paper in half, then dip crumpled 1-inch squares of spring-colored tissue paper into white glue and stick onto the front of the card. Your preschooler might dictate a message to write inside the card, along with this Bible thought: God loves us always (see Psalm 107:1).

Encourage your preschooler to draw a picture to describe the experience. Continue to stay in touch with your senior adult friend.
