Summer Camp 2019 - Day 5

Friday Is Fun Day!

Friday at camp is Fun Day! What could be more fun in the summer than making ice cream in a bag? For a special Friday treat, we offer this activity that you can do at any time with preschoolers. They enjoy making their own bag of ice cream—and of course shaking the bag!

Always post the Allergy Alert Chart when doing food activities with preschoolers.

Ice Cream in a Bag

MATERIALS FOR EACH SERIVING:

  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • ice
  • 1/4 cup rock salt
  • quart-size freezer bag
  • packing tape (optional)
  • gallon-size freezer bag

TO MAKE:

1. Add half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla to the quart-size freezer bag. Close the bag and seal it well. Optional: Fold the top of the freezer bag over and tape with packing tape to assure the bag does not break open.

2. Place ice in the gallon-size freezer bag, about half full. Sprinkle rock salt over the ice.

3. Place the quart-size freezer bag inside the gallon-size freezer bag on top of the ice. Close the gallon-size bag and seal it well. Optional: Fold the top of the bag and tape.

4. Shake the bag for 4–5 minutes until the cream mixture becomes ice cream.

5. Remove the quart-size bag carefully so salt does not get inside the ice cream. Open the bag of ice cream and enjoy straight from the bag!

Camp Was Fun!

The WMU preschool team prays that you have a great start to a new year in Mission Friends! As a bonus for you, download the Mission Friends Preview for an overview of the missions areas and missionaries for the 2019–2020 year. If we can help you in any way, please send us a message through the Mission Friends Facebook page or email Joye Smith, preschool consultant, at jsmith@wmu.org. Thank you for coming to Summer Camp. We’ve had fun at camp this week, and we hope the year ahead holds lots of fun as you teach Mission Friends!
