Unshakable Pursuit

Bible study

These little people literally run into our Mission Friends room each week. They have expectant looks on their faces as they ask, “What are we doing today?” In Mission Friends at my church, our preschoolers come to us from preschool choir each week, which is held in a classroom down the hall. They run into our room with excitement at the possibilities of what they might get to do in that session of Mission Friends. My co-teacher and I are ready for them with activities to help them learn how missionaries tell others about God’s love. We have to be ready, or it will be chaos when they arrive.

I know the importance of being ready with the paper, paint, blocks, and puzzles to use in teaching Mission Friends. Even more important, though, is being ready in our hearts. We have a God-sized task of leading our preschoolers to know of God’s love and to know there are people in our world who need to hear about Jesus. We must pursue God in our own lives in order to be ready to teach preschoolers about Him. May our unshakable pursuit be to seek Him and make Him known.

Paul’s words challenge and encourage us in our unshakable pursuit: “My dear friends, stand firm and don’t be shaken. Always keep busy working for the Lord. You know that everything you do for him is worthwhile” (1 Cor. 15:58 CEV1).

Our unshakable pursuit starts with knowing God. Seek to know Him more through a deeper understanding of His Word. In the new emphasis book, Unshakable Pursuit, Grace Thornton encourages us to “ask God to make Himself known to you in new ways today through the truth of His Word so that you can know Him for who He really is—the prize worth your whole life.”2 Come to know Him through prayer as you talk to God and listen to Him speak to you in the stillness of your heart. As you come to know Him more, you are able to love preschoolers unconditionally. In reflecting His love to the preschoolers you teach, they will come to know of God and His love for them. As you serve God by teaching Mission Friends, know that all you do is worthwhile as you seek Him in unshakable pursuit.

Pray: Lord, Lead me to know You better by being faithful and obedient to You. Guide me to reflect Your love to preschoolers as I teach Mission Friends. May I live my life in unshakable pursuit of You. Amen
