Welcome to Children's Ministry Day

Join thousands of children across North America in hands-on ministry in your community each February for Children's Ministry Day! Over the years, thousands of people have been involved in Children's Ministry Day! WMU invites all children in grades 1-6 to participate. For more information about Children's Ministry Day, email children@wmu.org or contact your state WMU office.

Each February, thousands of children across North America participate in ministry projects on the same day: Children's Ministry Day. From feeding hungry people to visiting shut-ins, girls and boys follow God's command to "put your love into action" (1 John 3:18). Church groups create projects that meet needs in their own communities. WMU created Children's Ministry Day to move children out of their churches and into their communities to do missions. The first Children's Ministry Day was in 2008. Since then, thousands of people have taken part in Children's Ministry Day!

If you have comments or questions, please email children@wmu.org. We look forward to helping your children do hands-on ministry!

CMD Basics

Why Participate in Children's Ministry Day?

Why should churches participate in Children's Ministry Day? It's motivational. It's easy. And it works!

It's motivational!

Children's Ministry Day is a great way to get the children in your church motivated and engaged in mission action in their own community. What better way to get them motivated than to help them to see that they are joining thousands of other children across North America to minister to people with the love of Jesus?

Imagine the impact the church of Jesus Christ could have in North America if children everywhere lead their entire church family to minister in their communities!

It's easy!

Children's Ministry Day is easy to implement. All the tools you need for planning and promotion are in the Annual Promotion Pack. Includes project ideas and posters for your CMD event.

It works!

Through Children's Ministry Day, God has used children to make a real difference in their communities.

We encourage churches to research the needs in their community and find ways children can meet those specific needs. We anticipate that many more lives will be impacted as children reach out in their communities with the love of Jesus.

Praying for Children's Ministry Day

Make praying for Children's Ministry Day part of your personal and your church prayer plan.

Set aside time daily or weekly during your personal prayer time to pray specifically for the people who are planning Children's Ministry Day. Include the leaders in your church and other individuals or organizations you are working with on your list. Add to the list as the planning progress and more people get involved.

Also, pray for the children who will be involved. Begin praying that each child in your church will be able to participate. Pray that children outside of your church will come and participate. And pray for the people you will be ministering to.

Develop a churchwide prayer strategy. Enlist a prayer team 100 days before CMD, and assign them specific prayers related to your church's planning, leadership, and implementation. Give each prayer team a prayer reminder that your children have created.

Create Children's Ministry Day prayer request of the week. Post a new request weekly in your church's newsletter and/or bulletin. Make sure each adult and children's Sunday School teacher receives a copy of the week's prayer request before church on Sunday, and encourage them to pray for CMD during their group's prayertime.

Use the ideas in the Annual Promotion Pack to create a bulletin board to promote CMD. Leave space on the bulletin board to post the week's CMD prayer request. Make sure you post the request before people begin to arrive at church each week. Try to ask the person leading prayers at each worship service, Sunday School class, and churchwide event to pray for CMD using the week's prayer request.

Get families of the children praying, too! Send home a personal letter addressed to "Parents of [child's name]" with a copy of the prayer requests you have created for your event. In the letter, tell parents about Children's Ministry Day and your desire for their child to participate. Also invite parents and children to pray for Children's Ministry Day at home. Follow up a couple of weeks later with a personal invitation to the child/children of each household to participate.
