January 2019 Ideas

January: Journey of a Church Planter

Check out @NewCircleIndianapolis on Facebook or @NewCircleChurch on Twitter (or Instagram). Read through some posts to understand how God is at work in the church and city.

Write a prayer for the church in a post or tag them in a message. Let the church know you are praying for them.

January: Story Sets

Gather an assortment of toys, blocks, and figurines.

Challenge children to create the scene in Daniel 3, including the fiery furnace and the golden statue. Ask children to use figurines to represent the characters from Daniel 3 (Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, King Nebuchadnezzar, the fourth person who appeared in the furnace, and any others).

Invite children to tell the story using the scene and figures as props.

Invite children to play a game of “tic-tac-toe” using the Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and fourth person figurines for one player and parts of the golden statue toy objects for the other player.

January: Missionary Updates

Did you know that missionaries regularly send updates to the people and churches that have committed to pray for them? They send these updates by email, usually monthly or whenever a specific need arises.

Barry Rager also sends out email updates. You can learn how to best pray for him and the work he is doing in Indianapolis by joining his mailing list here.

You may also want to read a recent newsletter to find out how God is at work in the hearts of the people at New Circle Church. You can read and pray as directed.

January: Indianapolis Map Search

Explore the interactive map available here or here. Look specifically at Indianapolis and the North American Mission Board’s current church plants and sites that need church plants. Pray for each of these churches on the map. Add the map layer showing current Southern Baptist churches. Pray for these churches to see where God is at work in their communities.

Take a moment to look up your own region on the map. Explore any church plants and Southern Baptist churches in your area. Think of ways you can pray for your church and neighboring churches. Connect with neighboring churches for a special event, such as Children’s Missions Day or another missions project that would address some widespread needs in your community.

January: Missions Photos

This month, children will learn about the ministry of the Rager family in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Ragers moved away from their home and support network to serve as church planters in Indy. They are unshakable in their faith to understand and communicate the gospel of Jesus in a way that is effective and easy to understand.
