New Job an Answer to Prayer for Retired Missionaries

Claudia and John Brown

In the Missions Inspiration article in the November 2018 issue of Missions Mosaic, retired missionary Claudia Brown shared her story of taking an early retirement and transitioning back to US soil after 31 years of serving primarily in Mozambique and Malawi. She asked for prayer for God to confirm the assignment He has for her husband, John.

And God did even more—providing new opportunities to serve for both of them.

John now serves as chaplain for City Youth Ministries in Jonesboro, Arkansas. His primary focus is relationship building with youth and their caregivers. As a Lunch Buddy at area schools, John coordinates in-home visits and parent meetings and works with churches to develop a prayer network and small-group studies for parents on specific topics. Homes are being impacted by the gospel.

Pray for John in this new assignment. Ask God to bring forth a spiritual awakening among the youth of Jonesboro. Pray John’s salary would be provided through fund-raising initiatives and generous hearts.

John continues as interim pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Missouri. Pray God would provide wisdom for him as he shepherds this small group of believers toward reaching its community for Christ. Ask the Spirit to fan the flame of each heart toward God’s direction in outreach and obedience in stewardship.

Along with her ongoing chaplaincy duties at Northeast Arkansas Baptist Memorial Hospital, Claudia now serves as volunteer chaplain to the female officers of the Jonesboro Police Department. Pray hospital staff, patients, and families would be transformed by the gospel. Ask God to empower Claudia with boldness as she builds relationships with these brave women of law enforcement.

While various challenges may test and refine their faith, at the end of the day, John and Claudia remain grateful for God’s provisions. Truly they can sing, “It is well!”
